Khenpo Konchok Choskyab was born into a peasant family in 1977 in the village of Umla, Ladakh. At the age of eleven he took the novice vows in the monastery Phyang. Together with Khenpo Rangdol and Khenpo Tamphel he belonged to the first group of monks who in 1987 began the study of Buddhist philosophy at the newly established Drikung Kagyu Institute in Dehra Dun. With the support of His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang and after nine years at the Drikung Kagyu Institute he was able to continue his studies for another three years at the Sakya, Dzongsar Institute.
He then taught at the Drikung Kagyu Institute. He teached the monks of the monastery Jangchubling and the nuns of Samtenling. With H.E. Nubpa Rinpoche, he revised the collected works of the great master Dharmakirti (Kunkhyen Rigzin Chodrak, 1595-1659) and with His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang he revised the writings of Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon (1143-1217), who founded the Drikung Kagyu line.
During the Snake-Year-Teachings in 2000/2001 he received the complete transmissions of the Drikung Kagyu tradition. During a two-month stay in Bhutan he received teachings and transmissions to Chakrasamvara (Khorlo Demchog) of H.H. Je Khenpo Rinpoche. After that he studied Buddhist logic, the Prajnaparamita Sutras and the teachings of philosophy by Madyamaka Rinpoche at Drepung Loseling Monastery in South India for another nine years, .
After his intensive efforts, Khenpo Konchok Choskyab accomplished not only the study of the teachings of the Drikung Kagyu but also the Sakya and Gelug tradition in 2009 and received the title of Khenpo by His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang.
